When I try to backup my site with Akeeba it fails saying that the ReDJ tables have too many rows in them (it says a million but I don't think that's correct). There are however over 9000 pages of urls in the error tab when I look at it in the back end. It looks like it is just the error table as the redirects and 404 tabs only show a couple of pages each. Is it okay to delete all the stuff in the error table? Will that cause me any problems? What is the difference between purge and clean?

You could delete all tables BUT the one with rules. You can also use the backend button, which alerts you with a clear message before to proceed, and the message explains the difference between purge and clean. One delete all rows, while the other saves the rows with a one-to-one redirect set.
